Haiti...

Steve's mission in Haiti is still going strong and they are seeing positive changes which is nice. We took the map out this week so that Abbey and Michael could see where their Daddy was. Abbey said "It's not too far!" ha!ha! ! The blue Bakugon is us and the red Bakugon is Haiti!

Eagles!

Today a caravan of us journeyed down to the New Minas area (with the Poole Family leading the way!) to see the eagles! Who knew it was so popular....follow the signs!

It was a sunny but cold day...with not a cloud in the sky! Check out this cool picture!

Here are pictures of the farmer dropping off dead chickens (you can actually see them flying out of the van...we saw this part) and then the eagles feasting (we missed this part but Trina got pictures for us).

There were 300 plus people lining the streets to see these eagles. Some had lenses on their cameras as long as my leg, obviously my little compact camera was not going to do the trick. This was a situation were size really did matter! Thanks to Mary and Trina for taking the pics to make this post possible!

Well, I've now seen the infamous eagles! I'm glad I did it once but won't be rushing back to see them again.

I Am Woman....

Here me roar!!!! First two snow days of the year and guess what? Steve is away!!! Quelle surprise! Over 3000 km separate us! (Halifax-Port-Au-Prince) Who's going to shovel? That would be ME and my two super cute but not-so-efficient helpers. As I pulled out the shovel and looked at our sparkling new snow blower in the corner of the garage, I thought "I can do this!". So after a quick tutorial over the phone by Steve...I was ready baby! It was a little intimidating at first because there were at least 15 men across the street putting up a new house but I carried on my merry little snow blowing way!

Off to a little bit of a rough start...forgot to switch it from c

hoke to run....and then there was the time I forgot to switch the snow blowing hose thingy (very technical term) to NOT blow straight into the wind and my whole right side got COVERED in snow...but I DID it! and I loved it! Totally empowering experience! I wanted to do the whole street...but quickly came to my senses! lol!

Next time I might even try taking it out of first gear! bahahahaha~

Hope For Haiti

I've been watching Hope For Haiti on and off all night and all I can think of is how proud I am of Steve for being a part of the relief efforts. He and his crew are working crazy hours and pushing themselves so hard but they are making a difference. So devastating but it's amazing how the entire world has come together to support Haiti.

Timbits Jamboree!

Michael's first ever hockey tournament was in early January 2010 at Acadia University! We were all so excited for it! Here are the boys getting ready to go on the ice...it's about this time when I noticed something not quite right about Michael's skates.

After closer inspection, Steve realized that in our excitement to get on the road, we mistakenly grabbed Michael's left skate...and Abbey's left skate. FOR THE LOVE! The poor boy had two left skates on! (they are a different size to boot!)  Michael was totally okay with it but during the game I burned home (in record time!) and got him his other skate for the following game. Lesson learned for sure...now Abbey has hot pink laces on her hockey skates. We won't be making that mistake again! Makes for a good story though eh! :-)

Move Over Hannah Montana!

Abbey got a Hannah Montana outfit for Christmas from Santa. It was her favourite gift by FAR! Michael received a Grave Digger Monster Truck and Monster Jam Movie. Here they are enjoying their favourite gifts...at the same time...Christmas day! So funny! By the way...pink socks NOT included in the Hannah Montana kit! teehee!

Kids Say the Darndest Things...

On the way to Abbey's dance school, we pass by a cemetery. The other day Michael asked me what it was. I explained, very age appropriately, that when people die, their families often put up a beautiful marble plaque to commemorate their life. My explanation seemed to be good enough for him...but the following week he asked me if there was a special plaque for Terry Fox in that cemetery. I replied that there wasn't but that there was probably one in his home town close to his  family. Well, you can tell he's been thinking about all this death and dying thing because last night at bedtime, Michael tells me "I'm glad I only know two people who have died." Since we've had no immediate deaths in our family (thank goodness!) I asked him who those two people were. His reply...Terry Fox and Jesus! FOR THE LOVE!!! Out of the mouth of babes!!! 

I just hugged him and said "Yes you are lucky!" and laughed all the way downstairs!!! 

SNOW! SNOW! and more SNOW!

The Maritimes were hit by a big snowstorm last week...or as they call it around here "a 'noreaster". It was during the holidays so there was (sadly) no snow day involved!

Anyhow, Steve was a third of the way through shoveling our driveway when he decided we needed a snow blower...NOW!!! Off he went right then and there to Sears and purchased one! Here a picture of him and his new baby!!! He's grinning from ear to ear!

Hockey Update...

If this isn't the quintessential Canadian hockey picture, I don't know what is?!? Here's my boy dressed in his hockey gear, ready for practice, walking to the rink in the middle of a snow storm. LOVE IT!

He are still really enjoying hockey as a family. Michael has improved so much since starting in October and we are all very proud of him. Here's a short video of him during warm-up. It's so cute! You even see him slow down to check on what Abbey is doing in the stands! 

 He's #17 by the way...just like my Dad was! 

Michael has his first hockey tournament this weekend at Acadia University. Should be fun! I'll take pictures and blog about it of course! :-)
