Our Nation's Capital...

I grew up in the most beautiful city (Ottawa) and totally took for granted all the amazing things it had to offer...until I left. The three things I miss the most (aside from the obvious family and friends) are...

1. San Marino pizza (there's NOTHING like it!)
2.the Tulip Festival (soooooo pretty!)
3. Winterlude. (skating, hot chocolate and beaver tails..does it get any better?!?)

(well I miss the good shopping and restaurants too so I guess that's 5 things!)

Anyway, I'm feeling nostalgic because my parents leave for Florida tomorrow morning and they went for their last skate of the season today on the Canal. The pictures they sent are below. Just look at the background. Isn't it spectacular?!










The Rideau Canal is the longest outdoor skating rink in the world offering 7.8 kilometres of uninterrupted skating! Ahhh!!!

I am working on about 4 hours sleep right now (and not even continuous hours)...so sorry if this entry is all over the place. I did report cards until 1am last night and then Abbey & Michael decided to make life difficult for me; taking turns waking up every hour or so. Good thing God made them so friggin' cute! lol!

I'm going to try and get a few more reports done tonight. I'm headed to the fridge for a Coke as soon as I press publish to get me through it. Wish me luck!

Only 2 more sleeps before Steve comes home. yay!

Only 10 more sleeps before Siesta Key...that is if the passport situation ever gets resolved!

PANCAKES!

I have one recipe that I know by heart and that I'm actually good at...pancakes! Don't laugh! :-) My old neighbour Shelley and I used to make pancakes all the time and well I'm still using that same recipe. (it's been like 2o years!) Anyway, Abbey and Michael love making and eating pancakes! Here's a few pictures of our latest batch. We'll be eating LOTS of these since Daddy is away!

48 hours...

We'll Steve has been gone for 48 hours...only 4 more sleeps until he comes back! but who's counting lol! I have new found respect for single parents because although my kids are fantastic, you still have to do everything YOURSELF!!!
Last night we just had pizza for supper (as you all know, Steve is the cook around here!) and Abbey decided that we should eat in the dining room. It was quite funny! Abbey, Michael and I sitting in the dining room together eating our not-so-fancy meal.
Yesterday was a busy day because I had to take the kids to the photographer to get our passport pictures done...AGAIN!!! I was very happy about that! (note sarcasm!) Thursday night after 3 hours on hold and 17 minutes actually talking to someone, I found out that our passport pictures were rejected. Considering the fact that we leave for Florida in 2 and a half weeks this was a BIG problem...anyway I'll keep you posted about that nightmare as I'll be heading in to Halifax this week to hopefully get this giant mess resolved in time to leave.

The Biggest Bestest Snowman...

A while back I sent out (or tried to send out) several emails with our snowman building extravaganza (lol!) pictures attached and nobody was able to open them! SO frustrating! Anyway this blog allows me to put as many pictures as I want on it (LOVE IT!) and this way I actually know if it works instead of clogging up everyone's in-boxes.

We had such a blast building this massive snowman...funny how I say "we"...I was just the photographer hee!hee! Hey I need good pictures to scrapbook with! We built it on one of our many snow days!!!! Yes I'm rubbing it in for all my Ontario friends who actually have to go to school when buses are cancelled. We've had 6 or 7 snow days here so far already! Glorious! It was gorgeous out that day...tons of snow but no wind. The last picture is of Michael and Abbey hugging the snowman so you get a sense of how big it really is (at least 7 feet tall because it was bigger then Steve!)

Still no progress on the report cards...yuck! I've done everything else but reports...cleaning, laundry, this blog, I even donated blood yesterday to avoid them. I better get my butt in gear but this is just so much more fun! Damn you Donna and Jill for introducing me to this! :-)

So exciting!

My very own BLOG. YAY. I thought this would be nice to create so people back home or new friends around here could keep in touch and see what's new and exciting in our world. A few of my friends have a blog and I have become obsessed in their updates. Hopefully mine will be as exciting as theirs. (I'm not promising anything though.) :-)
It's February and I'm in major report card denial...hence the wasting time and procrastinating by creating this blog. argh. Well I should get back to marking. double argh.
