This morning I got a bunch of old newspapers and spread them out in the kitchen and dressed the kids in their grubby clothes so they could let loose while taking the "guts" out of the pumpkin.
I was thinking it would be a wonderfully messy activity. Not so much! Abbey and Michael didn't even want to put their hands in the pumpkin for fear of getting them dirty...what's up with that?!? I had to give them big spoons so that they could get in on the action. Once they got into it they liked it but they didn't want any of that orange goo on them that's for sure. They sure did like the baked pumpkin seeds though and were so proud of the finished product. Not quite the chaos I had envisioned but fun nonetheless!

Isn't it funny how everyone thinks kids love to get messy, but mine didn't like the goo either. When Stephanie (who is 24 now) went to nursery school (age 3ish) she was the only kid in the class who refused to "fingerpaint" and had to use a spoon to touch the paint, and spread it around to make her "ART". Sweet pumpkin face, and the pumpkin goes really well with Abby's hair!
This is so adorable! Too funny that they were worried about getting messy! My nephew Cliffy's first word was "mess". He, too, is particularly anal about getting dirty! Much like Craig, he even hates if you look sideways at his food on his plate....and DON'T breath on it! EEKS!
